SOUTH BRONX — A man who pointed his gun at police officers following an armed robbery pleaded guilty to attempted murder, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
David Gant, 30, robbed a man at gunpoint early in the morning on July 22, 2014, and the victim called 911, the DA said.
Gant then turned his gun at the responding police officers, who fired one shot at him, causing Gant to flee, eventually falling and breaking his leg, according to law enforcement officials.
He waved his gun at the officers while lying on the ground and held the gun to his head before he was subdued and arrested, the Bronx DA's Office said.
Gant pleaded guilty to attempted murder and robbery on Wednesday and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 23, when he is expected to receive 12 years behind bars.
"The defendant robbed a man and then put responding police officers in grave danger by pointing and waving a gun at them," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. "He will receive 12 years in prison for his acts of mayhem on the streets of the Hunts Point neighborhood."
