MASPETH — Three people were killed and 11 injured in a five-car pileup on the Long Island Expressway on Wednesday morning, police said.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2010 black Infiniti sedan was traveling at high speed eastbound on the LIE when the driver lost control and struck a barrier about 4:20 a.m., police said.

The car was split in half by the impact and its front portion landed in the left lane of the eastbound lower roadway where a 2012 Acura TL ran into it near the Maurice Avenue exit, according to the NYPD.

Three of five occupants inside the Infiniti — Michael Fabre, 25, of Oakland Gardens, Giovany Sanchez, 24, of Brentwood, Long Island, and Christina Formato, 24, of Franklin Square, Long Island — were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The other two passengers of the Infiniti were taken to Elmhurst General Hospital with one in critical condition and the other in stable condition, police said. The driver of the Acura suffered minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.

The accident resulted in a second collision when a dump truck could not stop itself in time from colliding into five other vehicles that had stopped, according to the NYPD.

Those injured during the collisions were treated at Elmhurst and Queens hospitals, a police spokesman said.

Police sources said the occupants of the Infiniti had been celebrating the birthday of one of the survivors earlier that night at Avenue, a club at 116 10th Ave. in Manhattan.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Officials closed all Queens-bound lanes after the crash, which snarled traffic in the area in the immediate aftermath.

The lanes were reopened about 8:30 a.m., officials said.
