EAST VILLAGE — The city on Sept. 15 will present plans to renovate two playgrounds in Tompkins Square Park, giving community members a chance to sound off on the project.

After gathering community input on desired improvements to the playgrounds at East 7th Street and Avenue B, the Parks Department has drawn up a schematic design for the renovated play areas to be presented at Community Board 3's Parks Committee meeting, a department rep confirmed.

City Councilwoman Rosie Mendez, who last year secured more than $900,000 for the project, is now encouraging park-goers to show up to the public meeting to provide input on the plan.

The Parks Department hosted two visioning sessions allowing residents to help draft the new design for the playgrounds — which have not seen improvements in more than a decade despite being popular play areas for neighborhood children, according to Mendez.

The meeting will be held at Casa Victoria at 308 E. Eighth Street, and will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
