The rents also include gas for cooking.

After the project came under fire for including a separate entrance, or "poor door," for lower-income renters, the developers pitched it as a "world-class building" that spared no expense in the construction of the affordable units.

Amenities at the building include a fitness center, bike storage, a children’s playroom, tenant storage, a laundry room, a roof terrace/courtyard and private terrace (for additional fees).

Five percent of the affordable units are set aside for mobility-disabled applicants, while 2 percent are set aside for vision- or hearing-impaired applicants.

Preference for 50 percent of the units will be given to residents of Manhattan Community Board 7, and preference for 5 percent of the units will be given to city employees.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 1.

Interested applicants can apply online here, or request an application by mail by sending a self-addressed envelope to 10 Freedom Place c/o Breaking Ground, PO Box 3620937, New York, NY 10129.
