Robbers With BB Gun Steal $4.5K in Items From Man Waiting For Cab: NYPD

HELL’S KITCHEN — A pair of thieves with a BB gun were arrested for robbing a man of nearly $4,500 worth of belongings as he waited for a cab outside his apartment, the NYPD said.

The 34-year-old victim was waiting for a taxi outside his apartment on West 52nd Street, between 10th and 11th avenues, around 5:11 a.m. on Aug. 25 when two men approached him, police and a complaint filed with the Manhattan District Attorney's office said.

One of the suspects, David Scott, 33, appeared to be holding a gun, the DA's office said.

“Take off your stuff,” Scott demanded, according to police.

After Scott and the second suspect, Jerry Lee, 30, demanded the man hand over his belongings, including his $150 duffel bag, $1,800 laptop computer, $600 iPhone 6, $50 wallet, $10 computer mouse, $100 messenger bag, $15 hat, $50 headphones, $70 laptop battery, $15 iPhone charger, an $800 Saks Fifth Avenue gift card, $80 worth of toiletries and $250 in clothing, the NYPD said.

Lee also took a $500 yellow chain from the man’s neck, police said.

At some point during the incident, Lee told the man to “get on the ground,” police said.

The items were valued at $4,490 in total, the NYPD said.

After the robbery, the suspects told him to “turn and run and not to look back,” the complaint said.

They then fled northbound on 10th Avenue but were later stopped by police and identified by the victim, the NYPD said.

After a police officer stopped Scott, he discovered a BB gun in his pocket and found several of the victim’s belongings on the ground, the DA’s office said. Lee admitted to an officer that he was the man the victim described to police, the complaint said.

Both men were charged with two counts of robbery in the second degree, the DA’s office said.

The two are currently being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex — Lee on $15,000 bail and Scott on $25,000 bail — and were expected to appear in court Tuesday, city Department of Correction records show.

Attorneys for both men declined to comment Tuesday.
