MORRISANIA — A two-year-old Shih Tzu named Chulo was found Wednesday outside the same supermarket where it had been stolen, according to the NYPD and a report.

NBC New York reported the dog was found at 5 p.m. tied to a pole in front of Associated Supermarket at 3470 3rd Avenue.

Chulo had been snatched when its owner, John Nevarez, 64, tied him to a tree Sunday afternoon to get dog food, according to police and news reports. Nevarez told the New York Post he is a diabetic, and Chulo barks and licks him when he senses his master is in need of an insulin shot.

A man — described as 40 to 50 years old — was caught on surveillance video undoing the dog's leash and then fleeing south on 3rd Avenue, according to the NYPD. He was last seen wearing a dark colored T-shirt, dark colored shorts and black sneakers.

The dognapping is still under investigation, according to NBC New York.
