Man Steals $37K in Checks From His Job, Prosecutors Say

By Nicholas Rizzi | August 22, 2016 5:19pm

BLOOMFIELD — A man stole $37,607 worth of checks from his job and cashed them in his own name, prosecutors said.

From July 1 to Aug. 11, Brian Calise, 36, stole six checks from Richmond Ready Mix Corp., at 291 Chelsea Road, where he worked then cashed them at a nearby check cashing spot, prosecutors said.

Each check Calise took was worth between $3,801.09 to $7,790.92, prosecutors said.

Calise was arrested on Thursday and charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny at his arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

His bail was set at $10,000 and he's due back in court on Oct. 25, according to online court records.

Calise's lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
