LOWER EAST SIDE — Constituents of Assembly District 65 who couldn’t make it to the Aug. 14 "candidates forum" in Chinatown have another chance to grill the candidates vying for disgraced former Assemblyman Sheldon Silver’s seat this Tuesday.
The Henry Street Settlement on Aug. 23 will host another forum at the Abrons Art Center Playhouse at 466 Grand St., where candidates will once again take questions from audience members pertaining to neighborhood issues.
The forum will kick off at 6 p.m. and run until 8 p.m. All audience members attending the public forum will get a chance to question the candidates, according to a flier distributed by the settlement.
The seat is currently occupied by Assemblywoman Alice Cancel, who won the seat during an April special election called by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to fill the seat left by Silver, who had been found guilty of corruption charges.
She now must face the five other candidates in a primary election in September and a general election in November.
Cancel will once again be up against Yuh-Line Niou, who ran against her during the special election as a Working Party Families candidate. Former Community Board 3 Chairwoman Gigi Li, community activist Don Lee, community organizer Paul Newell, and civil rights lawyer Jenifer Rajkumar are also running.
