ASTORIA — A robber tackled a 51-year-old man to the ground in order to steal his wallet Saturday morning, police said.

The victim was entering a residential building near 23rd Street and Astoria Boulevard at 4:45 a.m. when he was approached from behind by a man who covered the victim’s mouth with his left hand and punched him in the face with his right hand, police said.

When the 51-year-old man fell to the ground, the attacker grabbed the man’s wallet from his back pocket and fled, police said.

A suspect was caught on surveillance footage in a nearby deli, police said. 

Police describe the suspect as a 25- to 35-year-old man who stands about 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a blue tank top, khaki shorts and black sneakers.
