BUSHWICK — A registered sex offender was arrested and charged with a knifepoint rape after he called 911 and asked dispatchers to send a car to give him a ride, police said.

When police responded to the emergency call, they found Michael Mann, 52, whose clothing matched the description of a suspect who'd attacked a woman the day before. Police said when he called 911, Mann was making irrational statements.

Early Tuesday, a woman was walking home from the Kosciuszko Street J train stop when she was grabbed by the neck and forced to a garage near Evergreen and Dekalb avenues in Bushwick and sexually assaulted, police said.

Mann flashed a knife and threatened to stab and kill her, police say. He also took $5.

The victim went to Wyckoff Hospital after the attack, according to the New York Daily News. The News reported the victim had been on her way home after watching a movie with friends in Coney Island.

Mann was previously convicted of rape in 1985 and was designated as a high risk sex offender, according to the New York State Sex Offender Registry.

As a registered sex offender, he is required to report any change of address within 10 days, which Mann failed to do, police say.

Mann was charged with rape, robbery and several sex offender registry violations, according to police. He will be arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court Thursday, according to the News.
