MIDTOWN — A glass-breaking burglar has been knocking over Manhattan banks since April by smashing or removing window panels, according to a police report.

The thief, who is pictured in a security still released by police as a middle-aged man with a shaved head, has hit banks five different times since the beginning of April, breaking in through windows to each one either late at night or early in the morning, police said.

He first struck the Investors Bank located at 276 Fifth Ave. at 30th Street where he pried open a teller drawer at about 6 a.m. on April 6 and made off with an unspecified amount of cash, according to a police report.

The burglar turned up at the same bank again on July 24, a Sunday, at about 11:50 a.m., and forcibly opened a safe and stole cash, police said.

He hit Investors Bank a third time at the same location at about 4:05 a.m. on Aug. 9, again forcing open a locked safe and stealing an unspecified amount of cash, according to a police report.

A little more than an hour later he broke into a Bank of America branch located at 345 Park Ave. between East 51st and East 52nd streets and tried to pry open a teller door, but left empty-handed, police said.

A week later, on Tuesday, he broke into a Santander Bank branch located at 169 Seventh Ave. between West 19th and West 20th streets at about 3:20 a.m., forced open a drawer and a cabinet, and fled with an unspecified amount of cash, police said.

Representatives of Santander Bank, Investors Bank, and Bank of America did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
