LOWER MANHATTAN — Lower Manhattan public schools don't necessarily love standardized testing, but their students are still some of the city's best test-takers.

Downtown public school students were some of the city's top performers on the state's math and English exams, according to recent Department of Education data analyzed by DNAinfo New York.

Citywide, students' scores jumped higher this year than last, with about 38 percent meeting proficiency levels on the English exam. About 36.4 percent met standards in math, an increase from about 30 percent the year before.

While all of Lower Manhattan's schools fared well, surpassing the city's average scores, in 2016, TriBeCa's P.S. 150 and P.S. 234 were some of the city's standouts.

At the one-class-per-grade P.S. 150, for example, 86.7 percent of students passed the ELA test, while 80.3 percent passed the state Math test this year.
