UPPER EAST SIDE — Yoko Ono's gift to you is a capsule full of air.
Much like everything else in the Jewish Museum's upcoming exhibit, "Take Me (I'm Yours)," visitors are encouraged to take a piece of each of the show's artworks with them, including Yoko Ono's "air dispensers," or emptied candy dispensers designed to dole out air capsules instead of sweets.
The exhibit, which debuts at the 1109 Fifth Ave. museum on Sept. 16, features the works of 40 artists and almost everything on display will be free to take home.
In artist Carsten Höller's "pill clock," blue and white placebo gel capsules fall from a dispenser fastened to the ceiling on a timer, and visitors are allowed to gather them and take them home.
Other items like temporary tattoos and stencils by artist Lawrence Weiner that say "now art belongs to you and me," and individually wrapped candies by Felix Gonzalez-Torres are also up for grabs.
In order to create enough pieces for the exhibit, or roughly 10,000 of each artwork for the entire length of the show, the museum has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $30,000 that will go toward replenishing the art.
As of Monday, the page raised more than $12,000.
The concept of the show is to give and share with the community, which is a fundamental part of Jewish culture, said Jens Hoffmann, the director of Special Exhibitions at the museum.
"Every museum is part of a community and every museum is a community," Hoffmann said. "We're really giving and sharing ideas and the artworks that are on display."
In a video released by the museum, Hoffmann said he got the idea from the Serpentine Galleries in London that held its own "Take Me (I'm Yours)" exhibit in 1995 and included works by 12 artists.
"I looked at the exhibition and the premise and thought 'Wow, this is going to make a lot of sense in New York in 2016'," he said.
The exhibit runs from Sept. 16 to February 5, 2017. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $7.50 for students, and there is no additional fee for the items you take home. Saturdays are free and Thursday nights are "pay what you wish."
The museum at 1109 Fifth Ave. at 92nd Street is open from 11 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday and on Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
