NEW YORK CITY — Police evacuated two terminals at JFK Airport Sunday night in response to allegations of shots fired, the Port Authority and reports said.

Terminal 8 was shut down shortly before 10 p.m. and Terminal 1 also closed shortly after that due to reports of gunfire, NBC New York reported.

Early investigations found no evidence of shots fired and there were no reports of injuries, according to a statement by the Port Authority posted on Twitter.

The terminals were expected to resume normal operations, according to a 12:18 a.m. Monday tweet from the NYPD's Special Operations division.

"The terminal was evacuated out of an [abundance] of caution," the Port Authority's statement said. "Travellers should contact their carriers."

The Van Wyck Expressway approaching JFK Airport was closed due to police activity, the city's Office of Emergency Management tweeted.

The Port Authority Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment.

The NYPD said it could not comment further on the situation.
