NEW YORK CITY — New York City's firefighter union on Friday added an additional $5,000 to the reward for information that leads to the killer of Karina Vetrano, who was assaulted and strangled while jogging in Howard Beach, police said.

The Uniformed Firefighters Association on Friday agreed to pay the reward upon the arrest and conviction of Vetrano's killer, bringing the total to $25,000, police said.

The union's contribution comes days after the NYPD doubled its own reward, with an additional $10,000 from the New York City Police Foundation. In the 10 days since Vetrano's death, the sum has increased tenfold, from $2,500 to the current $25,000 reward.

Vetrano's father found the body of his 30-year-old daughter on Aug. 2, face-down in the marshland area of Gateway National Park, where she frequently jogged, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
