CHINATOWN — Police are hunting for a man who stole a sleeping woman’s handbag in the Canal Street subway station last month.

The 26-year-old victim, who had fallen asleep on the platform of the Canal Street Station near Lafayette Street, awoke at 4:30 a.m. on July 23 to find her handbag had been stolen, police said.

One hour later, a surveillance camera at the 110th Street 6 train station caught the suspect buying MetroCards with the woman’s credit cards, according to police.

Police released a photo of the suspect on Thursday and asked anyone with information about the incident to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
