WEST VILLAGE — Two "well-dressed" graffiti vandals were caught red-handed after tagging on a Grove Street Dumpster with "not legible" scrawls, police said.

Police said the suspects, aged 34 and 38 years old, were wearing red dress shoes and brown dress shoes, respectively, when an officer spotted them tagging a Dumpster in front of 50 Grove St. at about 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 5.

Officers found two paint markers in the 38-year-old's pocket and one in the 34-year-old's pocket, police said.

The two men were arrested and charged with making graffiti and possession of graffiti instruments, both misdemeanors.

They pleaded guilty at their arraignment and agreed to take adjournments in contemplation of dismissal, meaning if they don't get re-arrested before Feb 3, 2017, their charges will be dismissed.

The 38-year-old's attorney had no comment, and the 34-year-old's attorney did not immediately return a voicemail left for comment.
