NEW YORK CITY —  Break out the iced tea and turn on the A.C., because here we go again.

A five-day streak of hot and humid weather is expected to hit the city on Wednesday, with a heat index that will peak at 100 degrees on Friday and Saturday, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

The agency issued a heat advisory for Wednesday and Thursday for weather that New York City Department of Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito warned could be treacherous.

“The warm temperatures expected this week will be especially dangerous to vulnerable New Yorkers," said Esposito.  "So check in on older neighbors and friends with underlying medical conditions.”

Temperatures are expected to hit 86 degrees on Wednesday and 89 on Thursday, but humidity will make it feel 5 to 10 degrees hotter, according to NWS forecasts.

The heat could reach the low 90s on Friday and Saturday, but humidity will make it feel more like 100 degrees, and Sunday is expected to be in the mid-80s, with humidity making it feel like 95 degrees, according to forecasts.

The city will open cooling centers on Wednesday and Thursday for those without access to air conditioning, according to a statement from the Department of Emergency Management.

New Yorkers can find the nearest cooling center by calling 311 or visiting the city’s Cooling Center Finder at www.nyc.gov/beattheheat.
