THE BRONX — A total of 165 firearms were turned in on Saturday at a gun buyback event in The Bronx, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

The event was held at the Fellowship Tabernacle at 1234 B E. Gun Hill Road, where 99 guns were turned in, and at the Evangelical Garifuna Church at 344 Brook Ave., where 66 were turned in.

The 165 guns consisted of three assault rifles, 61 revolvers, 52 semi-automatic pistols, 12 rifles, 10 shotguns and 27 BB guns, starter pistols and air pistols, the DA said.

Officials offered a $200 pre-paid card for operable assault rifles and handguns and a $25 pre-paid card for operable shotguns, rifles and air guns.

“Each of these guns represents a life saved in The Bronx,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. “We are very pleased that we got so many handguns. We thank the Bronx residents who wisely turned in illegal firearms to make their homes and communities safer.”
