LONG ISLAND CITY — Two men shoplifted from a gas station then punched the clerk in the face on the Fourth of July, the NYPD said.

The two men — who were both dressed in red, white and blue clothing — entered the Exxon Mobil gas station at 40-40 Crescent St. and took items off the shelves at about 7:42 p.m., police said.

When the store clerk tried to take the items back from the shoplifters, one of the men punched him in the face then ran away, according to the NYPD.

Police did not know what items were taken from the station.
