'I Can Moonwalk Here If I Want To,' Yells Man Blocking Traffic Near NYU

GREENWICH VILLAGE — A man was arrested for blocking traffic on a street and insisting he had a right to "moonwalk" there, police said.

Police said the 24-year-old man refused to get out of the street after he was asked several times so traffic could proceed about 10:19 p.m. on the northeast corner of West Fourth and Greene streets near New York University and Washington Square Park.

He refused, yelling and causing a disturbance for nearby pedestrians and NYU security, the NYPD said.

"You can't make me move," the man shouted, according to the NYPD. "I can moonwalk here if I want to. There is no law preventing me from standing in the middle of the street."

Police said approximately six pedestrians approached the intersection while the man was carrying on, saw him and then turned around and walked in the opposite direction.

The man was arrested and issued two violations for disorderly conduct for obstructing traffic and creating hazardous conditions.

He pled guilty at his arraignment, according to court records, and the case was adjourned until Jan. 27, at which point the charges may be dismissed.
