NEW YORK CITY — We might still be in the dog days of summer, but back to school is right around the corner.

The city's Department of Education will welcome public school students back to class on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The first day of school will be a partial school day for pre-Kindergarten public school students, school officials said.

Here Is the 2016-2017 Calendar for NYC's Public Schools

Kindergarten students will have an early dismissal on Sept. 8 (except for those in District 75, the specialized district for those with special needs) according to the DOE's 2016-2017 calendar.

District 75 students' first full day will be Friday, Sept. 9.

The first school holiday will be Eid al-Adha on Monday, Sept. 12, followed by Rosh Hashannah on Oct. 3 and 4.
