CHELSEA — A taxi driver sped through a red light and pinned a woman against another car in Chelsea last week, according to a police report.

Adam Hernandez, 30, was driving a yellow-cab van on West 19th Street at 10:30 a.m. on July 27, when he drove through a steady red light at Sixth Avenue and plowed into a woman in the crosswalk, witnesses told police.

Hernandez then rammed another car, pinning the woman’s legs between the two vehicles, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the 31-year-old victim in “significant pain” and with bruising to her knees, elbows and face, according to a criminal complaint.

She was taken to Bellevue hospital in serious condition with non life-threatening injuries, according to an FDNY spokesman.

Police arrested Hernandez at the scene, where he told them he had intentionally run into the woman, according to a criminal complaint. It was not clear from police reports if the two knew each other, or what prompted the attack, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.

Prosecutors charged Hernandez with vehicular assault and attempted vehicular assault, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. He was released on July 29 after posting $10,000 bail, records show. He is due back in court on Oct. 17, according to court records.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission suspended Hernandez's taxi license immediately following his arrest pending the outcome of the case, according to TLC Deputy Commissioner for Public Affairs Allan Fromberg.

A lawyer for Hernandez did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
