Pair Stole Thousands of Dollars Worth of Jewelry, NYPD Says

WEST VILLAGE — A man and a woman robbed an Alexis Bittar boutique on Bleecker Street twice, as well as a Sunglass Hut in SoHo, police said.

Police are looking for the pair since they made off with thousands of dollars of jewelry and Chanel sunglasses on three separate occasions in March and May, the NYPD said.

The first incident occurred on March 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Alexis Bittar Jewelry boutique at 353 Bleecker St. in the West Village, police said.

The man and woman distracted the store employee by pretending to shop, and managed to steal six pieces of jewelry valued at a total of $600, police said.

Police said they simply walked out of the store.

Later that evening, about 5:10 p.m., they stopped at the Sunglass Hut on 396 Broadway and pretended to browse, while stealing six pairs of Chanel sunglasses, valued at a total of $2,585, police said.

Again, they just walked out of the store, police said.

Police said they hit the same Alexis Bittar store a second time on May 8 about 2:15 p.m., distracting the store employee and stealing two diamond rings worth a total of $2,225.

Police were able to obtain surveillance video from the May incident and are releasing it in the hopes of tracking the pair down.

They are described as a woman in her 30s, about 5-foot-3 and 170 pounds, and a man in his 40s, about 5-foot-8 and 240 pounds with short black hair.
