BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A man was fatally shot and a woman injured inside a car that was double-parked on Halsey Street Tuesday morning, according to police.

Ernest Brown, 33, and an unidentified 22-year-old woman were both found in a black 2007 Mercedes-Benz in front of 675 Halsey St. at around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, police said.

Brown suffered gunshot wounds to his head and torso and was transported to Interfaith hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The woman, who sources identified as Brown's girlfriend, was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound in the torso, police said.

Joe Francis, 33, a local resident, heard several shots fired and saw two men in hooded sweatshirts with "athletic builds" running southbound on Patchen Avenue, he said.

Francis ran from his house out onto the street and saw first responders approach Brown and the woman in the car.

"He was clearly dead," Francis said of Brown. "She was wailing, saying, 'They shot me! They shot my boyfriend!'"

Local resident Tony Richards, 42, witnessed emergency responders trying to revive the unresponsive Brown inside the car, he said.

"There was blood all over," Richards said. "After a while, she went into shock. She started screaming and crying."

Marc Perez, 48, a local resident who was friends with the victim, described Brown as a "good dude" who had been shot once before in the thigh.

"I don't know if he was into something or what, but all I ever saw was the good side," Perez said.

"I feel messed up. It's sad."

There were no arrests as of Tuesday afternoon, and the investigation is ongoing.
