FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A burglar swiped a large, mounted samurai sword from the wall of a Financial District office, police said.

The burglar broke into 40 Exchange Place at some time on July 10, likely entering through an unlocked window. The thief grabbed the Japanese katana sword, which was encased in glass on the wall, along with two laptops and five paychecks. An office employee found the items missing on July 11.

In a separate incident, another office in the building was broken into on July 20, with nearly $20,000 in electronics, including several laptops, stolen.

Police said it was still unclear if the incidents were related.
