STATEN ISLAND — Each episode of This Is New York brings you a conversation with a DNAinfo New York reporter, followed by a story central to their beat.

This episode we head to Staten Island where reporter Nick Rizzi, a Staten Island native, will offer some pretty compelling reasons why, the next time you take the ferry, you should actually leave the terminal.

From there we head to South Beach Psychiatric Center and Staten Island University Hospital where a flock of turkeys wander freely across the grounds.

Animal rights activist David Karopkin, the founder of Goosewatch NYC, gives us the run down of how these creatures were threatened and some slaughtered and what's being done to protect them.
