CHELSEA — An SUV driver intentionally swerved into a cyclist, knocking her off her bike in Chelsea after the two had an argument in the street, according to a police report.

The victim, 30, was riding her bike on West 16th Street near Ninth Avenue when she and the motorist, Baljinder Singh, 36, got into a heated verbal dispute at about 7:46 p.m. on July 23, according to a police report.

After exchanging words, the woman took off, riding east two blocks, but Singh followed her in his black, 2015 Toyota Suburban and as they both headed down West 16th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues Singh intentionally swerved into the cyclist, knocking her off her bike, police said.

The woman suffered cuts and scrapes to her left arm and left leg, and officers arrested Singh at the scene, according to a police report.

Prosecutors charged Singh with three counts of assault and one charge of harassment, according to a criminal complaint. A judge released him without bail pending his next court date on Sept. 19, records show.

A lawyer for Singh did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
