Drug Debt Is Likely Motive in Jamaica Shooting Death, Police Say

QUEENS — A dispute over a drug debt was a possible motive in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man in Jamaica Monday night, police sources said.

The man, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was shot in the back just after 9:30 p.m., police said.

His body was found in the stairway leading to the basement of a two-story house on 157th Street near 109th Avenue, authorities said.

According to the NYPD, the man was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say there were no arrests as of Tuesday morning.

Investigators are now checking surveillance cameras in the area to see if they captured any images of the shooter.
