MIDTOWN — A flash flood warning was issued for the city Monday, with heavy rain expected for the evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.

Delays and service suspensions hit the Long Island Rail Road during the evening rush, with the MTA Police Department temporarily closing access into Penn Station due to "weather-related conditions" as of 7 p.m., according to the MTA's website.

Service between Penn Station, Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica was suspended in both directions as a result of weather-related signal trouble, the MTA said.

More information about service delays could be viewed on the MTA website.

A heat advisory was already issued for Monday until 8 p.m., with temperatures hovering around 100 degrees with humidity factored in.

City cooling centers will remain open through Tuesday.

Builders were required to secure cranes and other equipment at construction sites, with wind gusts expected up to 70 miles per hour, according to the Department of Buildings.

The flood warning was in effect until 8 p.m.
