THE BRONX — After contributing to The Bronx's fame by directing and starring in "A Bronx Tale," Robert De Niro is teaming up with a world-famous chef to open an eatery in the borough.
Massimo Bottura, whose restaurant Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy was named best in the world in 2016, recently posted a picture to Instagram of him and De Niro planning a new eatery for 2017 in The Bronx.
The "refettorio," Italian for refectory, will also be done in collaboration with the Italian consulate, according to the Bergamo Post, an Italian news outlet.
The news comes in conjunction with developer Keith Rubenstein's plans to develop a new food hall at 9 Bruckner Blvd. with a variety of takeout and sit-down venues called The Bruckner Market.
Rubenstein said he would love to host Bottura's new venture in The Bronx at the market but believes they have not yet chosen a venue.
Representatives for De Niro did not respond to requests for comment. Bottura described the idea as "a dream."
