QUEENS — The new $22 million EMS Station 50, which will house six ambulances and one emergency response vehicle, opened in Jamaica Friday.

The 13,000 square-foot facility located at 159-10 Goethals Ave. on the grounds of Queens Hospital Center is the largest EMS station in Queens and the new home of Queens EMS Borough Command, officials said.

The cantilevered structure, which was designed by Dean-Wolf Architects, has exterior walls made of glass and aluminum. It also features signature red overhead garage doors signaling that the building serves as an FDNY facility, according to the Department of Design and Construction.

EMS Station 50 includes locker rooms, a kitchen area and a fitness center for FDNY personnel.

“Today our members respond to more calls than ever before, including 1.7 million responses in the last year alone," said FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro in a statement, adding that the new facility will make it easier for FDNY to respond to an increasing number of calls.
