BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Mexican food “with a twist” is making its way to Fulton Street this summer with the opening of El Jeffe eatery, according to the restaurant’s owner.

The casual fast-food spot at 1483 Fulton St. between Tompkins and Throop avenues is slated to open by August, said owner Onishka Camarena. It will serve Mexican-style tacos infused with Caribbean flavors.

Taco selections include Caribbean jerk pork, blackened catfish, grilled chicken and avocado jalapeño, and customers can choose from other menu items like fried chicken, rice bowls, nachos and corn.

Tortillas will be made in-house, Camarena added, and the owner’s Panamanian background will bring some influence to the dishes.

“We want everyone to come in and have a sense of family and love,” she said.

“I’m from Brooklyn and I’ve always loved the diversity of Bedford-Stuyvesant as a young girl, it’s eclectic and a melting pot.”

The nearly 700-square-foot space sits 34 people and has an open kitchen.

El Jeffe, which Camarena said she chose as the name because, “We’re going to be the boss of all tacos,” is also looking to open a backyard space.

Pending the approval of its liquor license, the restaurant will also sell frozen margaritas and sangrias.
