Mom Killed and 9-Year-Old Daughter Critically Hurt in Hit-Run, NYPD Says

QUEENS — A woman was killed and her 9-year-old daughter was critically injured Sunday when they were flung from their car in a hit-and-run crash in South Ozone Park, police said.

Zaalika Rasool, 40, and her daughter were in a Toyota Corolla traveling north on 130th Street about 5 p.m. when a speeding westbound BMW X5 blew through a stop sign at 115th Avenue and hit them, NYPD officials said.

The mother and daughter, who were in the car with two men aged 71 and 47, were flung into the street and knocked unconscious, police said.

Rasool, of Ozone Park, was pronounced dead at the scene while her daughter was in critical condition at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, police said.

After hitting the family, the BMW hit three parked cars before coming to a full stop, police said.

The BMW's driver fled the scene on foot but the passenger was treated at Jamaica Hospital, police said.

The driver had not been arrested as of Monday morning, police said.
