Man Tried to Rape Woman in East Harlem Building Monday, NYPD Says

EAST HARLEM — A man tried to rape a woman after following her into her East Harlem building Monday evening, according to the NYPD.

The suspect walked into the building near East 102nd Street and Park Avenue behind the 31-year-old woman at about 7:15 p.m., police said. He then assaulted her in the stairwell.

The woman was able to fight the man off, and he fled the building after being briefly blocked by another man in the vestibule, according to video of the incident and a police spokesman.

The woman was taken to Metropolitan Hospital Center for evaluation.
