QUEENS — National retailer Sleep Number, which sells mattresses, pillows and bedding products, is planning to open its new — and currently its only New York City location — in Rego Park, the chain said.
The new 2,200-square-foot store will be located at 90-04 Metropolitan Ave., near Woodhaven Boulevard and next to a shopping center, which includes Trader Joe’s, Michaels Craft Store, Staples and Home Depot.
It will be the chain's 21st location in the New York metropolitan area, including upstate New York, New Jersey and Long Island, but it is currently only in New York City, according to Sarah Reckard, a spokeswoman for the company.
The retailer opened a store in the Queens Center Mall in 2005, but it closed in 2012, Reckard said.
The Rego Park store, scheduled to open on July 29, will be located in a building, which replaced an old Exxon gas station, which was demolished last year.
The chain will occupy approximately half of the 4,468-square-foot building.
The Long Island-based developer Vander Veer Management, did not immediately return a request for comment on who will be the other tenant in the building.
Sleep Number, which has around 500 stores across the country, is "dedicated to individualizing sleep experiences," the company said in a statement.
