MOTT HAVEN — A man suspected of stealing cans of Coors Light from a local railroad yard was fatally struck by a car as he ran across the Bruckner Expressway in Mott Haven Monday morning, police said.

The 22-year-old man, whose name wasn't immediately released, bolted south across the roadway near East 149th Street about 12:20 a.m. when a westbound BMW X5 SUV in the right lane hit him, an NYPD spokesman said.

The victim had just stolen a large amount of beer and was running across the street with it wrapped up in a shirt, and police believe he had stolen beer from the railroad yard before, according to the NYPD.

He was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical Center, police said.
