LONG ISLAND CITY — Police have arrested a homeless man they say shoved a 69-year-old man down a flight of stairs at a subway station last week, causing the victim to fracture his knee, officials said.

Jerome Blakely, 44, who lives in an East Village homeless shelter, approached the victim inside the 36th Street M/R station around 1:30 p.m. on July 6 and pushed him down the stairs without speaking, police said.

The victim suffered a fractured knee and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition, police said. The suspect fled the station to the street.

Blakely was arrested Monday on charges of assault, police said.
