WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Three people were slashed during a pair of unrelated uptown brawls on Sunday, police said.
The first attack took place at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at West 180th Street and Audubon Avenue, when William Joa, 42, and Samantha Cacevic, 20, apparently attacked each other.
Joa, police said, was cut on the back and stomach with a sharp object, while court records said Cacevic was “severely scraped and bleeding profusely from an open gash to the side of her eye.”
Both were arrested and charged with several counts of assault, according to the district attorney's office, and later released without bail.
Cacevic's lawyer, Gary Kaufman, said prior to his client's arraignment, the defendant, Williams, retracted his statement against Cacevic. Apparently, Kaufman said, Williams said he was drunk and didn't know what happened.
Prosecutors, Kaufman said, didn't ask for bail. Joa's next court date is Aug. 9. Cacevic is scheduled to return on Sept. 15. Police wouldn’t confirm how both knew each other, but said both live in Yonkers.
Shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, police said Raul Acosta, 23, slashed a 51-year-old man on the left side of his face in front of 660 W. 180th St.
Officials said Acosta cut the victim from behind the ear, across an ear lobe and down his cheek. Police recovered a knife from Acosta, prosecutors said.
Acosta was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana, and was ordered held on bail of $50,000 cash or $75,000 bond. He is due back in court on Friday, according to court records.
Acosta’s lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
