MOTT HAVEN — A couple of armed gunmen mugged a straphanger of $500 and a cellphone in a stairwell on the 6 train stop at East 143rd Street, according to police.

The suspects confronted the 29-year-old victim, who tried to run away, but they caught up to him on the stairs leading to the street at the East 143rd and Southern Boulevard 6 train stop. One of the muggers punched him, the NYPD said.

The suspects stole the victim’s book bag, Samsung cellphone and $500 before running away. The NYPD is seeking assistance in identifying both suspects.
