HELL'S KITCHEN — Southern fried chicken, grilled catfish and sweet potato pie will be on the menu at a new soul food restaurant opening on Ninth Avenue.
Mother-daughter duo Linda and Zora Browne plan to open Zora’s Cafe, a “premier soul food restaurant,” at 712 Ninth Ave., between West 48th and West 49th streets, within the next two months, a spokeswoman for the eatery confirmed on Tuesday.
“As there is a noticeable lack of traditional soul food restaurants in… Midtown and lower Manhattan, [Zora’s Cafe] plans to capture a neglected audience,” the cafe’s website said.
The eatery will serve up “healthier soul food dishes,” using ingredients like cage-free eggs, organic vegetables and antibiotic-free meats, “without compromising great taste,” the site added.
Mother Linda Browne has a decade of experience in catering, and her daughter Zora recently graduated from the University of Maryland with a business concentration, the site said.
The eatery — which is opening inside a vacant space next to Istanbul Kebab House — is in the process of applying for a wine and beer license, according to Community Board 4.
