CHELSEA — A pair of thieves sporting sunglasses pointed a gun at a Chelsea bank teller before fleeing with cash, police said.

The male and female suspects went into NorthEast Community Bank at 242 W. 23rd St., between Seventh and Eighth avenues, around 3:52 p.m. on Tuesday, the NYPD said.

The two walked up to the customer service counter, and the woman made it seem like she was filling out a deposit slip as the man stood near the teller stations looking around, police said.

Soon after, the man handed the woman a black bag he was carrying, went up to the counter and passed the teller a note demanding money, the NYPD said.

The man then took out a black semi-automatic firearm with black tape on it and placed it on the tray under the protective glass, pointing it toward the teller, police said.

The teller took an undetermined amount of money out of a drawer and gave it to the male suspect, the NYPD said.

He and the female thief fled the bank with the cash, traveling eastbound on West 23rd Street, police said.

The male suspect was described as 40 years old, standing 6 feet, with a bald head and wearing a gray dress shirt, a black vest and sunglasses, the NYPD said.

The female suspect was described as 40 to 50 years old and and was last seen wearing sunglasses, a black T-shirt and a black baseball cap with “NYC” written on it, police said.

A manager working at NorthEast Community Bank on Wednesday declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
