WASHINGTON HEIGHTS – A man sitting inside his car for the traffic light to change was shot by a man who ran up to his driver's side window, police said.

The 39-year-old victim was stopped on the corner of 187th St. and St. Nicholas Ave. just before midnight on Thursday when a man approached his window and shot him five times, police said.

The victim drove himself to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, police said.

Police said they are still investigating, but did not have a motive. They said the victim had been previously arrested eight times and served two years in prison.

The suspect, who was described as approximately 20 years old, was wearing a blue baseball cap, they said.
