ASTORIA — A coffee and donut shop on Broadway, known for its inexpensive eats, closed recently after more than four decades in business, according to signs posted on the windows and doors of the eatery.

Signs posted last week outside the Doral Donut Shop, at 31-16 Broadway near 32nd Street, thanked customers for their "many years of support," while the restaurant's windows were papered over. A phone number for the eatery is no longer accepting incoming calls.

The coffee shop, which served cheap breakfast specials and other traditional diner fare to customers seated at an old-fashioned lunch counter, had been in business since 1972.

Its menu included two eggs served with home fries, toast, and coffee or juice for just $4.25. Donuts were just 75 cents each,  while other offerings included homemade soups for $3, burgers and triple-decker sandwiches, according to a menu posted online.

"[It] was one of the last remaining stalwarts of Old Astoria on Broadway, a truly charming old school breakfast and lunch counter," one fan wrote on a Facebook page for the restaurant. "I will miss it!"

We Heart Astoria first reported on Doral's closure.

Attempts to reach the cafe's owner were not immediately successful, and the owner of the building — listed on property records as Hieber Astoria LLC — did not return a call seeking comment Friday.
