ASTORIA — A popular coffee shop chain that roasts its own beans and uses locally-sourced ingredients is opening its first location in the neighborhood soon, according to its owner.

Coffeed, which has more than a dozen locations in the city and on Long Island, will bring its fifteenth cafe to an empty storefront at 26-08 Hoyt Ave. South, between 27th and Crescent streets.

"It's a neighborhood I love," said Coffeed owner Frank Raffaele, who said he once lived in Astoria. "It's a very active area."

He said the new spot will be "very similar" to the company's other sites, but will focus primarily on coffee, espresso and pastries because of its small size. Light food may be added to the menu later on, he said.

"A classic New York espresso café bar," he said, adding that it will also serve Coffeed's cold brew, its most popular drink, which is brewed for 24 hours.

Coffeed first launched in 2012 with its flagship location on Northern Boulevard, in the same building as rooftop farm Brooklyn Grange, which supplies much of the company's produce and other ingredients.

It has since expanded to more than a dozen other sites, including Bryant Park, Fort Tryon Park, Chelsea and Staten Island. Coffeed also operates LIC Landing, an outdoor cafe in Hunters Point South Park.

The company roasts its own coffee beans and gives a portion of its proceeds to local charities.

Raffaele did not immediately have an opening date for the Astoria location.
