UPPER EAST SIDE — A new temporary enrollment site for the city's municipal ID has opened at Webster Library, according to city officials.

The pop up enrollment center will be set up at the 1465 York Ave. library near East 78th Street with staff on hand to help people sign up for the municipal ID card.

The cards, an initiative the city began last year, serves as a form of identification for any city resident over age 14, regardless of immigration status.

New Yorkers can use the photo IDs to open bank accounts (at select financial institutions), check out library books at the New York, Brooklyn, and Queens Public Library Systems, and gain free one-year memberships to over 40 cultural institutions. ID holders will also be able to get discounts on groceries and medicine, according to officials.

The cards cannot be used to get into bars though, officials said.

All local residents can set up their appointment to apply for their IDNYC card by calling 311 or by signing up online.

To apply, residents must show proof of identity and proof of residency, with acceptable documents including passports, driver's licenses, pay stubs and bills.

The pop-up site will be open Tuesdays through Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
