CRIME BLOTTER: Target Worker Arrested After Stealing $5K, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — A Target worker was arrested after taking $5,060 in cash from the store's register, police said.

The 20-year-old employee was arrested June 25, according to a police report. She worked at Target's Atlantic Terminal Mall location on Flatbush Avenue, where another employee was arrested June 13 after letting her friends and family steal $585 in merchandise from the store, according to a police report.

Other recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details from police reports:

► The Stop & Shop grocery store in the Atlantic Center mall was hit by three different shoplifters in the same week. On June 19, a 32-year-old woman was arrested after stealing $123 in groceries. On June 21, a 33-year-old man was arrested after swiping $20.27 in Bic lighters and body wash, and on June 23 a 45-year-old man was arrested after taking $45 in frozen food and $28 of DVDs.

► A 44-year-old Barclays Center employee had $245 and an unlimited MetroCard stolen out of her employee locker while she was working June 23. She discovered the theft at the end of her shift at 12:30 a.m. When she reported it to her supervisor, she was told a similar incident had happened the previous week.

► A 19-year-old man was arrested after using a forged credit card to buy $74 in food at Buffalo Wild Wings inside the Atlantic Center mall June 23 at 8:15 p.m.

► A bodega customer damaged the store after getting into an argument about returning a pack of cigarettes. The customer bought the cigarettes June 20 at 4:50 p.m. at a bodega on Fifth Avenue and 13th Street. Moments later, after opening the pack, the customer tried to return them but was refused. An argument broke out and the customer pushed over candy racks and a glass display case, damaging the store.

► A $700 Giant bike was stolen near 14th Street and Fourth Avenue on June 22 between 9 and 9:35 a.m.

► A $500 Cannondale bike was stolen while it was locked outside on Dean Street near Vanderbilt Avenue on June 19 about 12:30 a.m.

Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 18 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 345 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and June 19, 2016, and 423 major crimes during that period in 2015.
