MANHATTAN — A shiba inu that jumped out of a car stopped at a light on the Upper East Side was reunited with his owner hours later, police said.
The pup was seen hopping out of a window of a car at First Avenue and East 77th Street roughly 1:15 a.m. on Friday, police said.
The driver behind the car and a nearby shop owner saw the escape and called 911, according to authorities.
The dog was not injured, police said. It was unclear whether the owner knew or realized the dog had jumped out.
The dog was taken to the 19th Precinct stationhouse on East 67th Street.
Police contacted the owner, who they identified as Jonathan, by information they got off the dog's microchip that they had scanned.
Jonathan came to pick up "Osito" at 11:20 a.m. and rushed off to work, police said.
Today happens to be Take Your Dog to Work Day.
Officers posted pictures of the dog hanging out with them on Twitter.
