STATEN ISLAND — An ex-con accused of strangling his wife then wheeling her body around on a dolly was indicted for murder this week, District Attorney Michael McMahon announced.
Anthony Lopez, 31, of the Bronx, was hit with a five-count indictment Wednesday for the murder of Obiamaka Aduba, 21, inside a Richmond Terrace apartment last month, McMahon said.
"The circumstances surrounding the victim’s death are disturbing in nature and my office will vigorously pursue justice for this tragic loss of life," McMahon said in a statement.
On May 20, Lopez allegedly strangled Aduba between midnight and 7 a.m., prosecutors said.
Officers responded to 911 calls at about 7:10 a.m. of a man wheeling a body on a dolly around Mariners Harbor, police said. When they spotted Lopez, he ditched Aduba's body in front of 42 Post Lane and fled, police said.
EMS workers responded and pronounced Aduba dead at the scene.
Lopez was arrested two days later inside a deli near the NYPD's 121 Precinct, police said.
He was indicted on murder, strangulation, tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse charges Wednesday and was held without bail, according to the DA's office.
Lopez has been arrested several times before and was jailed for attempted robbery in 2003, according to police and the state Department of Corrections.
His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
