QUEENS — Target is planning to open its Forest Hills outpost on July 20, the chain announced. The store will replace a Barnes & Noble which closed in December.

The location, at 70-00 Austin St., will be part of the retailer’s new "flexible format" stores which are smaller than its usual large-size outlets.

This will be the first such store in New York, the chain said.

The Forest Hills location, which is approximately 21,000 square feet, is taking over nearly the entire building, with Starbucks and T.G.I. Friday's remaining on the ground floor.

It will offer “a pharmacy, select apparel, home items, health and beauty assortment, an assortment of fresh groceries, tech accessories and more,” Kristy Welker, a spokeswoman for the retail giant, said in an email.

The store is planning to hold its grand opening on July 24, the chain said.

Target replaces Barnes & Noble, which closed in December after two decades in the neighborhood.

The bookstore announced last August that it was not able to reach an agreement over its lease with its landlord Muss Development.

According to the landlord, Target signed a 15-year lease.

The retailer already has several locations in Queens, including in Elmhurst and Flushing.
